In a heartfelt and revealing interview, Robin-John Gibb, son of Bee Gees icon Robin Gibb, has spoken out to correct a widespread misconception about his father’s passing. Contrary to numerous media reports, Robin Gibb did not die from cancer. According to his son, the legendary singer succumbed to kidney failure, not the illness that many believed had claimed his life.

Speaking to The Express, Robin-John, often referred to as R-J, described his father’s final moments as “peaceful and dignified,” surrounded by 14 close friends and family members who kept a constant vigil during his final days. Gibb passed away at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of timeless music and emotional performances.

“It wasn’t the cancer that killed my father; those reports are wrong,” R-J stated candidly. He explained that his father had actually entered remission before his death. “The cancer was completely unrecognizable—it was too small to detect. No scan could see it. He actually died of kidney failure,” he clarified.

The grieving son elaborated further, revealing that Robin Gibb also experienced liver failure, leading to a rapid decline in his health. “It was a really sudden downturn,” he said. “Dad was watching DVDs when he had a seizure. Afterward, he was given sedatives to manage the side effects of his chemotherapy, but his liver simply couldn’t process them.”

Despite the challenges, Gibb never gave up. According to R-J, his father asked the family to do everything possible to keep him alive, saying they should try any means necessary, “no matter how futile it may seem.” It was a testament to his enduring strength and resilience, qualities that defined not only his music but his character.

The confusion surrounding the cause of death may stem from the official statement released at the time, which mentioned his battle with cancer. Many news outlets interpreted this as the cause of death, perpetuating an inaccurate narrative that R-J has now taken upon himself to correct.

Robin Gibb, one-third of the legendary Bee Gees alongside his brothers Barry and Maurice, helped define an era of music. From disco anthems like “Stayin’ Alive” to heartfelt ballads such as “How Deep Is Your Love,” the Bee Gees’ influence remains undeniable. Gibb’s unmistakable voice and songwriting genius earned him global acclaim and a permanent place in music history.

A memorial service honoring his life and legacy is scheduled to be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in September, offering fans and loved ones a chance to celebrate the remarkable journey of a man whose voice touched millions.

Robin Gibb’s passing marks the end of an era, but thanks to his music—and the efforts of his son to preserve the truth—his spirit endures. May he rest in peace.
