Legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck has finally been able to lay his cherished wife, Patricia Dorsey, to rest—six months after she passed away at the age of 85. Patricia had long battled Alzheimer’s disease and, more recently, fought against COVID-19. Married for 56 years and parents to four children, the couple shared a lifetime of love and devotion.

In preparing for her funeral, Humperdinck reached out to fans around the world for spiritual support:

“It would be comforting to see familiar, kind faces along the way. A prayer, a wave, a tip of the hat—any gesture of love would mean the world. Wherever you are, please say a prayer for my beautiful, extraordinary wife.”

Faith has long been a source of strength for Humperdinck, born Arnold Dorsey. He first publicly revealed Patricia’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2017, though she had quietly suffered from the illness for years. Determined to support her in every way possible, he combined traditional and spiritual care:

“When she was struggling with Alzheimer’s, I took her to Lourdes. It was a profoundly moving experience. I truly believe that every effort I made helped extend her time with us.”

Through family prayers, sacred rituals, and even alternative medical treatment in Germany, Patricia showed signs of improvement—at one point even regaining her ability to speak.

Sadly, during the pandemic, the entire household in Los Angeles contracted COVID-19. Engelbert, Patricia, their caregivers, and two of their children all became ill. While Patricia eventually recovered from the virus, she later succumbed to cardiac arrest.

“COVID swept through our home,” he shared with the Daily Mail. “But in the end, it was not COVID that took her. Her heart gave out.”
