Benjamin Keough's Autopsy Report Has Some Seriously Tragic Details

Introduction:

Benjamin Keough: The Life Behind Elvis Presley’s Famous Face

On October 21, 1992, a child was born in Tampa, Florida, into one of the most recognizable families in American entertainment. His name was Benjamin Storm Keough, the only son of Lisa Marie Presley and musician Danny Keough, and the grandson of Elvis Presley.

From the beginning, Benjamin carried a legacy most people could never imagine. His grandfather had become an icon before Benjamin was even born, and as he grew older, the resemblance became almost uncanny. Dark hair, familiar eyes, a striking jawline and an unmistakable presence repeatedly reminded fans of Elvis.

Photographs of Benjamin often attracted enormous attention. For a moment, strangers could look at his face and feel as though they were seeing Elvis again—but decades later. Yet those who knew Benjamin described someone very different from the image the public created around him. He was remembered as intelligent, funny, warm and full of light. More than fame, he appeared to value privacy and the people closest to him.

Music was part of his family history on both sides. His mother was Elvis’s only child, while his father was also a musician. Benjamin reportedly explored music in his own way, but he never seemed determined to turn the Presley name into a career.

His closest relationship was perhaps with his older sister, Riley Keough. The two grew up together in an extraordinary family environment, but their bond was described as deeply personal rather than simply being that of two Presley descendants.

Then, in July 2020, Benjamin died by suicide at the age of 27.

The loss devastated his family, particularly Lisa Marie. In the years that followed, she wrote openly about the overwhelming nature of losing a child and about how grief refused to follow a timetable. Her posthumously published memoir, completed with Riley, offered an intimate look at the aftermath of Benjamin’s death.

Riley mourned differently. She publicly remembered her brother through photographs and personal tributes, describing him as someone deeply loved and profoundly missed. In 2021, she also completed training as a death doula, explaining that she wanted to better understand death and help others confront it with greater awareness and compassion.

Benjamin’s story eventually came full circle at Graceland. He was laid to rest in the Meditation Garden, where Elvis and other members of the Presley family are also buried. When Lisa Marie died in January 2023, she was buried beside her son.

Riley later described her mother as having “died of a broken heart” after Benjamin’s death. It was not a medical diagnosis, but an intensely personal description of how deeply the loss had affected Lisa Marie.

And perhaps that is the most important part of Benjamin Keough’s story.

He was not simply Elvis Presley’s grandson.

He was a son, a brother, a musician, a friend and a young man trying to build an identity of his own beneath a name the world already knew.

The photographs may have made people see Elvis in his face. But the people who loved Benjamin remembered something much more important: they saw Benjamin.
