On the eve of his 1967 wedding to Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley was reportedly overwhelmed with emotion. According to accounts later shared by people close to the couple, his housekeeper and longtime confidante, Alberta, found him crying over the upcoming ceremony. Nine months later, Lisa Marie Presley was born, giving Elvis a daughter who would remain one of the most important people in his life.
Ultimately, saying Elvis was simply “forced” to marry Priscilla oversimplifies the story. There was undoubtedly pressure—from family concerns, his manager, his public image, and the consequences of their relationship. But Elvis still made the final decision.
Perhaps the tears before the wedding were not proof that he did not love Priscilla. Perhaps they reflected something more human: the fear of entering a life-changing commitment when part of him was still uncertain about what he truly wanted.
