Introduction:

Randy Owen, the unmistakable voice of the legendary group Alabama, has spent decades captivating audiences around the world. Yet, behind the fame and accolades lies a man profoundly grounded in his roots, his family, and the simple values he learned growing up on the mountain in Fort Payne, Alabama. In a recent heartfelt conversation, Randy welcomed longtime friend Jamie Cooper into his home, reflecting on his remarkable journey and the people who shaped it.Alabama Original: The Country Rover shares 4 decades of memories with Alabama legend Randy Owen

Randy’s connection with Jamie spans more than 40 years, dating back to the early 1980s when Alabama had just received their first million-dollar check from RCA Records. Even then, the success hadn’t changed him. He and his wife Kelly hosted Jamie for lunch at their home in Adamsburg, where their lives were beginning to transform in ways they could only imagine.

Not long after, Randy and Kelly founded Tennessee River Music, a prize cattle farm born from a dream Randy shared with his father. The name came from the first number-one song Randy ever wrote, “Tennessee River.” Jokingly, he once thought he might never write another hit—but history proved otherwise. Today, Tennessee River Music stands as both a tribute to his musical heritage and a heartfelt fulfillment of his father’s lifelong dream.Alabama's Randy Owen on His Father's Death: 'It Haunts Me'

Randy spoke deeply about his late father’s influence, recalling how the two bonded over cows and hard work. Though his father might never have believed in paying high prices for cattle, he would have been amazed at what the farm has become. For Randy, raising registered cattle isn’t just a business—it’s a legacy, a responsibility, and a promise kept.

No matter where fame has taken him, Randy has never forgotten where he came from. His fondest memories remain tied to the cotton fields, working alongside his parents and sisters. He remembers his first pair of Big Smith blue jeans, wearing them proudly all week long. He recalls picking, chopping, and hauling cotton to the gin, and the impressive speed of his mother and grandfather, both of whom could out-pick anyone in the family. Growing up, the Owens didn’t think of themselves as poor—they simply worked hard, lived simply, and found joy in each other.

During the visit, Jamie also spent time with Kelly Owen, whose humor, warmth, and dedication help keep their busy lives steady. From raising goats and chickens to assisting with the farm and supporting Randy in countless ways, Kelly remains his true partner in every sense. The two also take tremendous pride in their six grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent together in Fort Payne.Alabama band's Jeff Cook dead: Country rock star was 73 | New York Post
